We are a research and analytics company dedicated to building resilient, empowered communities through impactful data waste management. We collaborate with vulnerable communities to develop sustainable, socially just solutions that address their unique challenges and create lasting benefits.

Earthwise Insights was established in 2023 and we are based in Nairobi. We aspire to lead Africa in using data and technology for sustainable progress. Our core belief is that these tools can transform our planet and communities for the better. Our journey is driven by unwavering goals: environmental and social betterment through education and advocacy, emphasizing data-driven decision-making. Our story is one of innovation, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of positive change.

We believe that climate change is not just an environmental issue but a profound social justice challenge. The most vulnerable communities, especially those in marginalized areas like informal settlements, bear the brunt of climate impacts despite contributing the least to the problem. These communities often lack the resources and infrastructure to adapt, perpetuating cycles of poverty and inequality.

We are dedicated to addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and socio-economic inequalities through;

Our Vision

We envision a world where sustainable development is inclusive and equitable, where marginalized communities are empowered to actively participate in shaping their futures.

At Earthwise Insights, we believe that environmental sustainability and social justice are interconnected, and we strive to bridge the gap between data and community action.

Our mission is to leverage data and community engagement to address pressing environmental challenges, particularly in marginalized communities.

By integrating scientific research with local knowledge, we aim to empower communities, provide actionable insights to our partners, and foster resilience against climate change through focused initiatives in flood  and waste-management.

Why Waste and Flood Management?

Waste and flood management are intricately linked issues in urban informal settlements.

Clogged Drains

Improper waste disposal leads to clogged drainage systems, which significantly contribute to flooding during heavy rains.

Health Risks

Accumulated waste and stagnant water from floods create breeding grounds for diseases, posing serious health risks to residents.

Environmental Impact

Both issues contribute to environmental degradation, affecting the quality of life and sustainability of the communities.

Economic Costs

Flooding and poor waste management cause damage to property and infrastructure, leading to economic losses for already vulnerable communities.

By focusing on these interconnected challenges, Earthwise Insights aims to provide holistic solutions that not only address immediate issues but also contribute to long-term sustainability and resilience

In collaboration with our technical partner Spatial Collective, our projects

leverage cutting-edge geospatial technology and innovations to drive impactful outcomes. We utilize key technologies such as:

Satellite Imagery and UAVs

For high-resolution mapping and accurate land measurement.

GIS (Geographic Information Systems)

For spatial data analysis and visualization.

Machine Learning (ML)

To enhance data accuracy and trend analysis.

AI (Artificial Intelligence)

For predictive analytics and automated data processing.

These technologies enable us to deliver precise,

data-driven insights and immersive experiences for urban planning and sustainability initiatives.

1. Inadequate Waste Management

Waste management problems are worsening due to population growth, urbanization, and inadequate infrastructure. Unreliable waste collection leads to health issues and pollution.

2. Severe Flooding

Poor urban planning causes frequent flooding, resulting in property damage and displacement.

3. Limited Community Engagement

Communities often feel excluded from decision-making processes, resulting in ineffective interventions that do not meet their needs

4. Lack of Reliable Data

Many organizations struggle to access accurate data, which is a barrier to achieving their environmental and economic goals.

Problem Statement

Kenya’s marginalized communities, housing approximately 20.2 million residents, face significant challenges related to waste and flood management
